Where to Eat in Phoenix?

If there is one thing that can make or break a ‘good’ location, it would have to be food. Okay, it’s not number one… but it’s pretty darn close.

We absolutely need food to survive, but just because we need food doesn’t mean we need to settle for any dish from any cook. We deserve quality food and quality service. We also deserve plenty of options.

Here’s a list of 14 highly rated black owned restaurants throughout the Phoenix area, most of which offer delivery options.

The Larder + The Delta

Another Downtown Phoenix eatery, but with a twist. The Larder + The Delta is an American inspired restaurant, the chefs collectively make gourmet dishes from local produce. They hold a 4 out of 5 rating.

Mrs White’s Golden Rule Cafe

Located in Downtown Phoenix, Mrs White’s Golden Rule Cafe is a family owned restaurant that serves soul food dishes. The restaurant holds a 3.5 out of 5 rating from Yelp.

ATL Wings

With 16 locations all over the valley, it must be some good food, right? ATL Wings are know best for their Atlanta inspired chicken wing and fry combos. They are holding a 4 out of 5 rating on Yelp

Ezekiel’s

Located in southeast Phoenix or Ahwatukee, Ezekiel’s, is another soul food spot known for their fried chicken and catfish dinners. They hold a 4 out of 5 rating. Sources say the location is temporarily closed, I’m looking forward to the reopen.

Lo-Lo’s Chicken and Waffles

There are four Lo-Lo’s restaurants sprinkled throughout the valley; two locations in Phoenix, Az, one location in Scottsdale, Az, and one locations in Gilbert, Az. They are known most for their Chicken and Waffle dishes and soul food. They hold a 4 out of 5 on Yelp.

Fun Fact: For those looking for investment opportunities, they offer franchising.

Honey Bear’s BBQ

One location at the cusp of three cities; Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe. Honey Bear’s is a barbecue and family cookout type of restaurant. They hold a 3 out of 5 rating.

Fun Fact: They allow you to taste any of their menu items, but not during lunch rush of course.

Paz Cantina

Paz Cantina is a Mexican inspired restaurant that you can find in Downtown Phoenix. Did anybody say… Taco Tuesday? They hold a 3.5 out of 5 rating.

Café Lalibela

This Ethiopian inspired restaurant is located in Tempe, Az. Cafe Lalibela is know best for their vegetarian options. They hold a 4.5 out of 5 rating.

Papa Joe’s Fish-n-Que

You can find Papa Joe’s in North Phoenix, serving up barbecue and fried fish. They hold a 4.5 out of 5 rating.

Monroe’s Hot Chicken

Monroe’s is another restaurant that can be found in Downtown Phoenix. They are known most for their Nashville style hot chicken. They are holding a 4 out of 5 rating.

Another BBQ spot for the win, this one is located Downtown Phoenix. Trapp Haus is know best for their cook Phil who allegedly is holding it down for the hungry people from the Grill. They hold a 4 out of 5 rating.

Island Sensation Cuisine

Just north of Downtown Phoenix you can find, Island Sensation Cuisine, a Jamaican style food restaurant. This restaurant is probably best know for oxtails and plantains. They even offer poetry nights, once a week. They hold a 4.5 out of 5 rating.
